How does the menstrual cycle work?
The menstrual cycle is like a woman body calendar, and it prepares the body every month for a possible pregnancy.
Menstruation is when a woman has her period, that is, she bleeds. This happens because the uterus was prepared to receive a baby, but as there was no pregnancy, it discards the extra layer it had prepared. It generally lasts between 3 to 7 days.
Soon after menstruation, the body begins to prepare itself again. The ovaries begin to mature some eggs. Meanwhile, the uterus begins to build another cozy layer in case a baby arrives.
Ovulation is the “highlight day” on the calendar. This is the moment when a woman has more chances of getting pregnant if you have sex.
After ovulation, the released egg travels through the fallopian tubes toward the uterus. If it doesn't find a sperm on the way (that is, there is no fertilization), it falls apart. The body then begins to prepare to start all over again.
If the egg is fertilized by a sperm, a pregnancy. If this does not happen, the body discards the extra layer of the uterus, and menstruation begins again, restarting the cycle.
Why track your cycle?
To the track your cycle, you stay on top of what’s happening in your body. It's like keeping a diary about how you feel and what's going on internally. Nobody likes to be caught by surprise, right? By marking your days, you can predict when your period will start, which is great for preparing.
Many women experience mood swings during their cycle. By tracking, you can better understand these changes and know when you might feel more sensitive or energized.
